Lessons in the Garden of Experiments

Einstein Balls
Gravitational acceleration, kinetic energy, potential energy, momentum, Magnus effect – we will present those subjects using various balls. We will explain the mystery of Robert Carlos's shot at the 1998 World Championship in football. Also, a special guest will appear – dodgy ball.
The lesson is intended for students of junior high schools and high schools.


Playing with pressure
The lesson concerns the subject of static pressure in various contexts. We will learn about the force dormant in the air and durability of plastic bottles. The programme includes also a contest for the farthest rocket launch.
The lesson is intended for elementary school and junior high school students.

 
The lord of the rings
The phenomenon of a standing wave will be demonstrated using the example of instruments reminding more of sanitary installation than music. In the second part, waves will be displayed not only acoustically but also visually, as rings crossing the Garden.

Explosive lesson
During the lesson the students measure the speed of sound in the air. After a short theoretical introduction, the distance to the future grenade explosion site is measured. The key measurement consists of measuring the time between the flash and the bang of the grenade explosion.

WARNING: Due to the bird breeding season, the lesson is performed only in the second half of the year – September, October.


Football fan horn
During the lesson the students learn about physical aspects of sound. Volunteers will be able to show their vocal skills at an oscilloscope display.
Chosen musical instruments, such as football fan horn, will enable putting the theory learned into practice. For a part of the workshop, very loud behaviour will be preferred.

Search for a lost chest
During the lesson, the students learn orienteering with map and compass. Using the skills acquired, they find tasks prepared for them, based on the Experience Garden devices. Proper solutions will lead to a surprise hidden in the Garden.

Geological workshop
The workshop participants learn how rocks are created. They will study rock properties such as hardness, reactions to acids, taste, magnetism or radioactivity. In the end they will receive some specimens that may provide a start for their own geological collections.

Magical juice
During 40-minute workshops, focused on typical kitchen activities, the students will learn the concept of density. The adventure of discovering this phenomenon will begin with a short discussion of mom's soups. Then, playing with lots of colourful liquids and bowls, we get to create a colourful, magical potion.
The lesson is intended for children aged 5 to 8.


Physics of a balloon
During the lesson about a dozen surprising experiments are presented – each with a balloon. Balloons are inflated, pierced, burned, crashed, used as propulsion of land, water and air vehicles.
The lesson is intended for children aged 6 to 12.


Night trail
The "Night trail" in Experience Garden is an educational project performed after dark. The workshop participants experiment using an infra-red camera, UV lights, night vision devices, optical fibres and chemicals. The programme includes also astronomical observations on cloudless nights. The "Night trail" workshops are organised on special occasions, during events such as Museums at Night or Scientists' Night as well as on special order. Their participants are able to spend the night in tents in the Garden.
